Every figure on this site comes from the numbers you enter and the method printed beside them: your lesson length, your term weeks, your rate, your teacher split, your room cost and your travel. Where a guide names a published document it names the document and the date it was read. This site publishes no teacher's prices and no studio's fees.

Music teacher software is bought by a different person from music school software, and the difference decides what is worth paying for. There is no office, no administrator and no front desk: there is one teacher who is also the receptionist, the bookkeeper and the person chasing a parent for last term's fees, usually in the evening after teaching. What a solo teacher needs is not a smaller version of a school system. It is the two or three jobs that eat the evening, done in a way that does not need setting up every term.

Get the rate right once a year

The solo teacher's biggest money decision is the rate, and it is usually years old because working it out properly means pricing the travel and the room and the unpaid admin hour. The free rate card on this site does that arithmetic in a minute, and the answer holds for a year rather than needing software at all.

Keep the register so the invoice writes itself

For one teacher the register is thirty rows a week, and marking it as you go is the difference between an invoice you send on the first evening of the term and one you write on a Sunday in week three. It is also what an unhappy parent's question about a missed lesson is answered with.

Bill the term, chase from the record

A solo teacher who bills per lesson spends every week collecting money. Billing the term at the rate on the pupil's record turns thirty small collections into one, and the record shows who has paid without a scroll back through a bank app or a payment app's history.

What a studio owner asks before running the Music teacher software

How is this different from software for a music school?

A school is buying coordination between teachers: rooms, rosters, who covers whom. A solo teacher is buying their own evening back. The same timetable and register serve both, but the school needs teacher accounts and splits, and the teacher mostly needs the invoice to write itself.

I have thirty pupils and a notebook. Is that a problem?

Not by itself. Notebooks are excellent registers and terrible invoices. The question is what the end of a term costs you in hours, and whether a missed lesson from week four is still findable in November.

Do I need to charge my pupils differently to use it?

No. The rate on each pupil's record can be whatever you already charge, including the family discount and the old rate you never put up for a pupil who has been with you eight years. The register and the invoice follow the rates you set.

What does it cost for one teacher?

Lessonvo Pro is $16 a month whether you are one teacher or a studio of ten, and the rate card is free with no account. There is no per teacher price to grow into.

Lessonvo Pro

Keeping the register between terms

Upgrading turns the sheet into the register. The rate you settled on becomes the rate on the pupil's record; each lesson in the timetable is marked taught, missed or made up on the day; and the term invoice adds up what was actually taught rather than what was planned. Export is always available, so the register and the invoice history are yours whether or not you stay.

  • Send the term invoice or a lesson reminder to a parent from the record it came from.
  • Connect the studio's own Stripe account so parents can pay the term invoice.
  • Connect the bookkeeping the studio already files with, so the term's income lands there.
